Lidar Magazine Article Laser Scan to BIM
December 30, 15
Our client Coady Partnership asked us to produce a Revit Model from a Pointcloud. With many years experience in 3D Modelling and using the Leica C10 Laser Scanner we set out to adhere to their requirements.
A Revit model typically requires a lot of additional information that would not be present in a traditional 2D .dwg survey. This results in the development of the Revit BIM survey usually taking longer to construct than a 2D DWG/DXF survey plan as you need to input Revit components to build the existing condition model.
Once the scan was registered it was brought into Revit to begin the modelling process. Utilising the 3D data, sections and floor plans were generated very easily and traced around with Revit families to build up the model.
